Not since the Gutenburg Press has the world seen such an explosion of creative writing like the one that has occurred in the last decade. It seems at times that anyone who has access to the internet has something to say, and that is all well and good. Diaryland.com for example has nearly a million diaries online, updated with varying frequency, and all of varying quality.

It is the quality of the writing out there that this new books seeks to address. Caroline Joy Adams has put together a highly useful set of rules and examples on how to write in a way that captures the reader's attention. This is much more than a simple book on learning to write skillfully however. It is a series of exercise in understanding how we react to the world around us - our perceptions and experiences, and it teaches us how to express those experiences in the written word.
