Originally, published in 1973 as The Tree this book is a re-release with a new title and new introduction by Raymond Buckland.
Buckland, for those of you who have been studying Wicca in a small hole in the middle of the Gobi desert, is one of the fathers of the modern Wicca movement, directed by Gerald Gardner to bring Wicca to the Unites States back in the day.
He is the author of many titles on Wicca, including of course Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft, affectionately known as Bucky's Big Blue Book.
When Buckland decided to come out from under Gardner's wing, he developed Seax-Wicca, and The Tree was the coven book that he wrote as the foundation for this new tradition (Gotta love that oxymoron!).
A lot has been written about Wicca over the past thirty years since The Tree first came out, but it remains so complete, yet elegantly simple, that no witch should be without it - whatever their personal path may be.
The book explores coven structure, divination, sabbats, esbats, various special ceremonies (including hand-fasting, wiccening and hand-parting) as well as spells, chants and my personal favorite - wine and beer making!
This book was probably one of the last books written in the simpler time before target demographics, market shares and sweeps became the reason to write pagan literature. It's purity and simplicity shines through today and so I can do nothing less, in closing than offer you simple, sound advice:
