Before I begin the review of the book, I would like to say a few words about
the CD which accompanies it. While the style of the music is not one I
would enjoy listening to every day, or in every mood, there is an evocative
quality which would be very useful for setting the tone for a period of
meditation.
The voices and presentation of some of the songs remind me of Judy Collins
(for those of you youngsters out there, who are scratching your heads, find
some of her CDs and I think you will enjoy them).
The poetry may not be to everyone's liking. For me, the variety is
invigorating. I am not a huge fan of poetry, being more addicted to prose,
but I found myself enjoying this work immensely. It is not a collection of
comfortable ideas and thoughts. It will provoke introspection, as I feel
good poetry should. The prose is also quite stimulating.
Take the time to let each poem soak into your subconscious. Read one each
night and let it work through you as you sleep.
This set is a joy to experience. While you could enjoy the one without the
other, together they are more than doubly enjoyable. I'm glad I was asked
for my opinion, since I probably wouldn't have requested it for myself.
