Based on the Western Mystery Tradition, Learning Ritual Magic is a training manual for the solitary Magician.
The book is endorsed by Chic and Tabatha Cicero, authors of 'Self-Initiation into the Golden Dawn'., which I found interesting because the content of both books is similar, although whereas the Ciceros concentrate more on the Golden Dawn initiations, rituals and studies, Learning Ritual Magic pulls key elements from the book (such as Divination, the Tarot and Sacred Geometry) and expands upon them.
I guess this book would be useful for someone who wants to study High Magic, but doesn't want to study the Golden Dawn. Nothing wrong with that. But where I have a problem with the book is in the distracted, impersonal way it handles deity, breaking the Godhead down (where it is mentioned at all) to a mere variable in the equation of ritual.
This can be a good thing, since it allows the practitioner to approach deity in their own way without the book forcing any pre-conceived notions upon them of what deity is, but personally I have always felt and enjoyed the presence of deity in ritual, and found that there is a cameraderie and esprit de corps that should exist to make the Work truly Great.
This book was designed for the Solitary practitioner, and packs a lot of good information on High Magic, The Qabbalah and Nature of Being into it's 270 odd pages. But at times it seems to me a little too solitary. Your mileage may vary, however...
