I looked forward to reading this book and after doing so I am happy that I can say I liked it. I was hoping it would be useful - and it is. It teaches how to cast a circle and how to call in the Sons of Horus among many other things in a decidedly Egyptian style. It gives a well-rounded introduction into the Book of the Dead and touches on the Pyramid Texts and the Coffin Texts. I especially agree with getting information from the source, so maybe the advice the book gives about reading these texts for yourself is not too unreasonable. It even provides where in the texts to find various information or points to the passages etc. the quoted material is found.
Better, perhaps, than anything else it introduces the reader to Egyptian magic using the myths and legends of the Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. I won’t try to explain it here but I am really pleased to have this book in our collection and recommend it to anyone interested in the Egyptian pantheon.
Part II of the book is a reference of a large number of the Gods and Goddesses that I am sure to refer back to over and over again. The invocations and prayers are pulled from the ancient texts and are a wonderful way to give devotion to your chosen Deity. I do have a little bit of a problem with a couple of the descriptions they use but have to admit they support their ideas with quotes again supposedly from the ancient texts so perhaps I am the one that needs to re-think.
Personally, I will be watching for more Egyptian Paganism books from this couple, there are a number of other rituals and practices that could be brought into modern use and understanding and this would be the perfect couple to do it.
