The source deity of the Sumerian pantheon. From Nammu came all the other deities and all things. Described as "The Mother who gave birth to Heaven and Earth", she is the mother of An, the Father of the Gods.
"When heaven above was not yet known,
nor earth below called by name;
but primeval Apsû, their begetter,
and the matrix, Tiâmat
— she who gave birth to them all —
were mingling their waters in one."
(Enûma elish [Akkadian])

Information is unedited and unchecked

In Sumerian mythology, Nammu is probably the first of the ancient deities of Sumer — at least in the process of creation, if not in actual chronology. She was the goddess of the primeval sea that gave rise to heaven and earth. She is both mother of all the gods and wife of An (mythology)|An, which does suggest incest of a sort.
