  • Alexandrian
Alexandrianism is an original spin-off of Gardnerianism that began to emerge circa 1965, Alexandrianism developed through the teachings of English occultist Alexander Sanders (1916 - 1988), and his wife, Maxine. Among their many initiates are Janet and Stewart Farrar, Irish authors of various respected Craft texts. Introduced to the United States by Monique Wilson. Originally focusing more on male-oriented divinity and ritual magic practices, the tradition has, over the years returned more to its roots and is now very similar to Gardnerianism, although it is somewhat less dogmatic.

Alexandrian training tends to focus first and foremost on ritual skills. Some covens teach practical magic, such as divination, spell craft, herbal magic, etc. The theology varies greatly from one coven to the next.

Most Alexandrian covens will allow non-initiates to attend circles, usually as a "neophyte", who undergoes basic training in circle craft, and completes a number of projects, prior to being accepted by the coven for initiation to 1st degree. Some covens will also welcome non-initiated "guests" at open circles, usually for Sabbats.
