  • American Tradition of the Goddess
Also know as AMTRAD for short. AMTRAD is a Wiccan teaching tradition that was started in the mid 1980s by three solitaries. In the early nineties, the bylaws and initiation process were formalized, and tenets and degree system were initiated.

The American Tradition of the Goddess honors the Triple Goddess and the Triple God. The Goddess is seen as the creative force, and the God as her consort and counselor. The rituals of the wheel of the year are followed, and there is no tie to a particular pantheon. Indeed members are encouraged to use their creativity in ritual construction and to use elements from different pantheons and cultures.

During their first, or 'Rainbow' year, students of this tradition begin study and first taught the basic tenets of Wicca. After this year has passed, if a student is then initiated to first degree, they are considered a witch and asked to do one of the sabbats that year. After no less than a year and a day, a second degree initiation may be granted, and the person is considered a priest or priestess, at which point they may teach the rainbow year to new students. After a year and a day, the person is now third degree and given the title Elder Priest or Elder Priestess, at which point they may hive off and form their own coven. To receive the title of High Priestess, the third degree priestess must have a coven which consists of at least two other initiates and must then work the Wheel of the Year before autonomy may be granted.
